Joe Lamarca

Joe Lamarca is a 8th degree black belt instructor who was trained in the Shotokan style of karate. He started training in 1964 with the S.A. judo and karate club under the direction of Moss Hollis sensei .

In 1966 he gained his 1st dan, 2nd in 1969, 3rd in 1972, 4th in 1976 , 5th in 1981, 6th in 1989, 7th in 1999 and 8th in 2001.

During the  period from 1969 until 1971 he was in the army and trained in goju kai in N.S.W.

During 1971 and 1972 he won three state titles and as a result he was awarded his 3rd dan.

In 1972 Joe Lamarca founded the South Australian Karate Association, with the full blessing of his sensei, Moss Hollis, and is the association’s senior instructor.

Joe Lamarca  is a founding  member of the  South Australian Karate Association, a member of it’s grading panel and an “A” grade tournament referee.

Joe Lamarca retired from teaching karate in 2005.

Now in 2008 Joe is now considering retiring from his employment and the prospect of teaching karate again when he settles into retirement.

Joe is still a member of the A.M.A.A. through his association with S. A. Karate.

Joe still keeps an avid interest in the progress of the A.M.A.A. and will continue to in the future.

His basic martial arts philosophy is the solution to any martial problem and skill development can be found in KATA.

This is a very modest resume for a man who has devoted his life to the martial arts.  No one will argue that Joe was the backbone behind the many great tournaments that the A.M.A.A. has had in times past.  He also has a Masters Degree in teaching and many other university degrees.  In S.A. Karate we only wear a black belt....no stripes no frills, no matter what dan you are....because that is what Joe Sensei wore.  To him that black obi was enough, it meant everything to him.
