Sensei Barrie Revell's martial arts career started at a local youth club when he was just 11 yrs old.
He attended a class consisting of judo and boxing but opted for boxing initially, later practising judo.
Arriving in Australia from the UK in 1963 he joined a nearby boxing club, but changed to Karate Do, which was also being taught locally.
Moving to the Adelaide city area meant finding a new dojo to cut down on commuting time so he joined the "Kangaroo Judo and Karate Academy", with
Master Moss Hollis, one of
Australia's pioneer martial artists.
There he studied Shotokan Karate, Judo, Ju Jitsu and self defence.
After achieving his 3rd Dan he joined Master Bill Vaughan's Samurai Karate Club, where he furthered his craft on and off over the
years, also studying Shitoryu , Kung Fu and various other arts .
He then studied Iaido Katana (long sword ) , Bokken , Bo and Sai for eight years with Master Vaughan as a separate agenda, adding to his
repertoire to which he is forever grateful.
He has trained with various Masters over the years but considers Masters Hollis and Vaughan to be his main principles.
He teaches Martial Arts at his Shin Gi Tai club and is a regular contributor to the
A.M.A.A. judging and refereeing at competitions. Barrie Sensei teaches all of the above plus meditation and personal training.
Barrie Sensei was Vice President of the A.M.A.A. for a number of years.
Barrie Sensei became the
President of the A.M.A.A. after the passing of Bill Vaughn Sensei.
Barrie Sensei received his 9th dan from the
A.M.A.A. on the 3rd of February 2008.
