Andrew Payne started a ten week self defence course with
Moss Hollis as a teenager and stayed on to study judo and karate with the S.A. Judo and Karate club.
Andrew trained with many other teachers over the years, not finding one that
personally inspired him as did Moss Hollis Sensei originally.
In 1993 Andrew started training with
the S.A. Karate Association which was created by Joe Lamarca, with full permission from Moss Hollis Sensei to carry on his work, Andrew had come full circle.
In late 1994 David
Hanbury Sensei retired from teaching.
Andrew was the senior student so it fell on him to take over teaching the southern chapter of S.A. Karate and instruction of students. He received the
full backing of Joe Lamarca Sensei and all students in this undertaking.
Andrew started teaching a six week course in self defence at WEA (Workers Education Association S.A.) in October 1994. He continued doing three courses a year until government budget cuts in education in July 1998.
Andrew Payne received his
black belt on the 21st of December 1994,
his 2nd dan on the 22nd of April 1996, 3rd dan on the 27th of August 1999
and his 4th dan from S.A. Karate and the Australian Martial Arts Association
(AMAA) on
the 18th of March 2004. Andrew was promoted to 5th dan on the 4th of March 2008 by the A.M.A.A.
His weapon expertise is in the bo but his weapon of choice is the sai.
Andrew started doing Yang Style Tai Chi and Qiqong
in 1995 and was encouraged by Sifu Ray Pistilli, to start teaching Tai Chi and has been teaching Tai Chi since that time.
Andrew also does the yang style sword set of Tai Chi.
Andrew has a certificate in the training of adults, another for adult supervision and a level one coaching certificate from the AMAA. He also has his level 2 judges
and referees licence from the AMAA.
Andrew Payne became Chief Instructor when Joe Lamarca retired from teaching.
Andrew Payne is currently the
secretary of the AMAA.
Andrew has truly accepted the
teachings of Joe Lamarca Sensei that kata is karate and the answer to all martial questions are contained there in.
