On Friday 6th November 2009, the 25th Anniversary of the founding of the Australian Martial Arts Association (AMAA) was celebrated at the Comfort Inn’s Waterfront Reception Room in Glenelg, Adelaide, South Australia.

The night began with a series of demonstrations. Leading off with the preliminary entertainment was Kyoshi Gary Simpson who performed three kata - Seiunchin, a modified version of Shotokan’s Bassai Sho kata using kama and then Gojushiho Dai.

Geoff Worden, Andrew Quin and Adam Stevens gave a series of excellent demonstrations of Tenshin Katori Ryu sword techniques.

Founder certificates were presented to Joe Lamarca and Karol (Karl) Stojko, two of the three original founders.

Special presentations were made to President Barrie Revell, Vice President Roy Fuller, West Australian Rep Representative Gary Simpson and Roger Coole for their long-serving efforts.

Next came promotions sanctioned by the AMAA for recent member club promotions. These went to:

Aaron Coole – awarded an AMAA 5th Dan certificate,

Patrick and Rick Caruso – both awarded AMAA 2nd Dans and

Chris Ajaans, Jesse Payne and Diego Caruso - all 1st Dans.

The 25th Anniversary of the founding of the AMAA went off without a hitch. The Association, on behalf of all of its members, wish to thank the main organisers, Jenny Revell (Barrie’s wife) and Roy Fuller, for making the event such a smooth-running success.

Thanks to Chris Gilles and Roy Fuller for the photos.

A great time was had by all.

A long time ago....The 3 original founders of the incorporated body of the AMAA....and a fourth party....does anyone know who it is?

Zen Suru Kirisuto Nature Dojo

The next Z.S.K. Nature Dojo will be held in Belair National Park. Time will be 9am sharp meeting at the front gate. Sunday 26th of july.

The theme for this day will be 'Creating Kata's in the mind using Imagery without thought and the ignition of Fire Breath'.

There has been substantial research into neurolgical phenomenon which now proves that one who can image a Analogical Picture in the human mind (single picture), then has the ability to take that picture into a future reality, thus into matter.

Zen thought (the power of paradox) uses this principle by creating the negative of a picture in the mind (as in photography), and then promulgates the positive 'print'into the reality of matter. Sound familiar! the Samurai were masters of this, as were the Sufi's and many other great ancient cultures.

Look us up for additional imfo on the web page.

Martial arts student makes arrest

CAITLIN ANDREWS  29/05/2009 10:03:00 AM

IT’S not every day a civilian is involved in a police arrest but this week a man was saved from serious assault by a member of the community.

At about 11.30am on Tuesday Alan Bridge and his partner were walking under the Subway when they saw a young man assaulting an older man, believed to be in his late fifties.

Mr Bridge, a martial arts student of St Alban’s Ministry Centre, immediately climbed up the Subway to reach and secure the offender with an arm bar – martial arts restraint move – around his head preventing him from moving.

It was then that Hunter Valley Police stepped in and arrested the man.

Mr Bridge said the policeman thanked him and arrested the offender.

Mr Bridge has been learning martial arts at St Alban’s Ministry Centre for the past three weeks and it is there where he learnt not only his moves, but the value of serving the community.

“If I hadn’t had the training I have had here I don’t know what I would have done,” Mr Bridge said.

“I thought about it and knew what to do and that’s what I did,” he said.

Mr Bridge assists Executive Officer and Lay Minister Rod Eadie in training the children and said he was happy to be able to help someone out in the community.

“If I wasn’t around it could have been a lot more serious,” he said.

Mr Eadie said the martial arts classes teach students the ethical principles to help others in the community.

“The techniques that Alan has learnt have come to the aid and benefit of someone else in the community which is what we push here in the ministry centre,” he said.

Z.S.K. Nature Dojo: Today we had a very centred Kata session amidst the rain, mist and magnificent ESSENCE of Mt Lofty. Thank you

to Ester, Jamie, Ruth and Charity for coming out into the elements once again to celebrate the Self through Nature.
The group was again initiated into two  powerful Zen Chants, used by the ancient Zen monks and sages amongst the thick
covering of fog. Candle focus into ANALOGICAL MIND was the key to clearing the mind of it's intellectual monkey mind, into the Sub-Conscious Mind, .... possibilities of higher thoughts, higher ideas, higher kata's, beyond what has been memorised, habitualised, and practiced.
Throwing the fishing line into the unknown, into the Void ...... INNA ARKA NOVA.
The next Z.S.K. Natue Dojo will be held at West Beach, on Sunday 28th June 2009, just next to the West Beach Life Saving club at 9 am sharp.
Participants need to be there and ready to go at 9 am.

Junior Tournament: Sunday the 3rd of May was a great day for the junior and intermediate members of the AMAA, their Instructors and officials.  The faces of our future beamed as they received their trophies.

The day started with President Revell handing out level one coaching certificates to those who did the level one coaching course a month ago.  Then he handed out level two coaching certificates.

Following this Shianne Coole recieved her 4th degree black certificate.

The competitors were very patient during these proceedings but were very glad to see the competition begin.  A very good standard was set by all from the youngest member of the AMAA (yes he is a due paying member) to the intermediate level contestant.

You can see photos of the some of the winners here....hopefully more photo's to come, you can view the photos here.

ZEN SURU KIRISUTO: After a 5 month break due to study assignments (with the Unknown!), I am desiring to start Nature Dojo for 2009 back out where it all happens .... NATURE.

ZSK always continues with my clients within the chiropractic profession as part of their exercise and rehab programmes.

In answer to a number of your questions about 'Nature Dojo' and its format and practice. Firstly! the Dojo itself is really representative of the participants. At times I may have only one or two students, at other times ten to twenty may participate. This is based NOT on the construct of numbers but more on EXPERIENCE. To experience nature using BREATH - SOUND & KATA, is the idea here.In these times of great change, never before has the POWER OF PARADOX (Zen Thought) been so crucial in building the character and consciousness of the individual. An individual who can also effortlessly operate within a team of like minded people. I encourage you to participate from time to time, not to just do what is KNOWN, but to be outrageous and seek Higher thought, Higher ideas that you have not yet even considered yet .. the UNKNOWN! .... visions and ideas that you cannot explain intellectually ........ this is Higher Consciousness in Action, throwing out your fishing line into the Greater You.

To create a date for the first Dojo, which tentatively could be Sunday 17th of May at 9 am venue .... Mount Lofty Summit Kiosk, could those interested please indicate their wish to participate. ZSK is a unique club within the Martial Arts community, as it does not teach contact or Self Defense, rather Self Awareness and Zen thought through the Zen Kata's of Mind Consciousness.

ZSK operates as a physical entity ie in a location and place ... 'NATURE', but also as a non location, 'Hum Sou' ... "I am Here, I am There" .. this is the essence of Quantum Physics and Quantum Mind.

Free Seminar: A free seminar was for AMAA members on Judging and refereeing, at Craig Smith's Dojo  yesterday.  This was the largest turnout for  this type of seminar in years.

The AMAA has always been renowned for their tournaments and the calibre of there judges and referees.

The seminar was run by Roger and Aaron Coole and the information learnt was invaluable for not just those wanting to judge but also those who wish to enter tournaments.

Everyone passed the written exam and will receive their level one certificates at the junior tournament where they can hone their new skills under the guidance of our more experienced judges.

As they participate now and in the future they can progress to their level 2.

The entire committee attended along with our 10 new judges.

It was a very interesting and information  packed two (2) hours.

Thanks Craig for welcoming us to your dojo.

Thanks to Roger and Aaron and all the bodies that volunteered to break the rules for us.

Always remember your whistles guys!!!!
